'His Last Letter' follows the lives of Private Jack Sullivan. Lizzie Lewis, a nurse and War Reporter Bert Miller as they navigate the perils and tragedies of war, in a time where their only communication from abroad is handwritten letters. The story begins, in 1939, as all three Australians, on hearing the announcement over the radio waves, are encouraged to fight for their country. Eldest son of a farming family, Jack is spurred by his drive to protect his brothers, as they too enlist and the honor of fighting for his country, leaving behind his young family to become a soldier. As a nurse, working in Adelaide, Lizzie is disheartened when her brother Donald tells her, he has enlisted and secretly hopes, he doesn't become one of the wounded returning soldiers, that she now cares for in her wards. For Bert Miller, it's not the thrill of the fight, that lures him abroad in the middle of the war, it's the want to enlighten the public with the real stories. Bert wants to become a war reporter to tell the stories from the frontlines and the tales he hears in the words of the soldiers himself. As the war becomes the driving factor in each of their lives, these three young people set off on their own journey, with the lingering unspoken question of whether they will survive this time and return home. Will they find love in this world of tragedy? Or could their next letter be their last?
