Historical fantasy; SFF/H Writing Guide

Threading the Labyrinth

When American owner of a failing gallery, Toni, unexpectedly inherits a manor house from a mysterious lost relative, she travels to England to sell it so she can save her business. But she finds a crumbling building, overgrown gardens, and random historical paperwork. Soon she’s immersed in the history of the place, intrigued by the figures she sees in the corner of her eye, the ghost of a WWII fighter plane, and a mysterious green glow over the walled garden. A narrative that threads together stories across 400 years, Threading the Labyrinth is “A poignant and elegant meditation on time and identity” (M.R. Carey, author of The Girl With All the Gifts).

Spec Fic for Newbies

Every year, Tiffani Angus (Ph.D.) and Val Nolan (Ph.D.) saw new students who wanted to write SFF/Horror but had never tried the genres, floundered, or, worse, were told that they are not “real” literature (spoiler alert: they’re the most real literature of all!). Spec Fic for Newbies breaks these genres down into bite-sized subgenres or tropes with a fun, open, and contemporary approach, providing a short history of each, a list of potential pitfalls, a description of their benefits, and activities to try out!
